An open thank you letter to the coworking industry

Sometimes, you just need to pause and be grateful.

This isn’t a guide to content marketing. It’s not a how-to article or a list of tips.

It’s a personal note I wanted to record/write—an open thank you letter to the coworking industry for shaping my journey, my business, and my life.

Why I’m writing this

I just got back from my wedding in Italy—and there's nothing like time off and major life milestones to help you reflect and feel gratitude (and get a little sentimental).

While I was away, I thought a lot about my life so far, my career, and how I got here.

From a professional perspective, I kept coming back to the same thought: I’m incredibly grateful to be part of this industry and for the opportunities it has provided me with.

For me (and maybe you), work is work, and a job inevitably becomes a job. It's always been that way, on my end.

But when I stepped back for a second, I was reminded why I do this work in the first place.

That reflection turned into this letter.

How coworking changed everything for me

Back in 2017, I was six years into working in PR agencies. I had a stable job, a predictable career path, and the comfort of knowing what came next.

But I didn't love it.

As luck would have it, a chance meeting with a new connection at a dog park (who is now a friend, mentor, and podcast co-host) led to me freelance writing blog articles for a coworking space.

With this newly discovered entrepreneurial opportunity, I started to feel restless in my 9-to-5 job.

I wanted to build something of my own. In truth, I was never built to be somebody's employee.

So I left my job to become a "writer" (whatever that meant)—without a clear plan, just a vague sense that I could figure it out.

That leap was terrifying. I felt lonely, out of my depth, unsure of what I was doing.

Until I stepped into my first coworking space in Toronto.

That space was the spark.

I met other entrepreneurs grinding away, building their businesses, making things happen.

I watched how they worked. I learned from them. I was inspired by their hustle. That energy was infectious.

In fact, one of the first people I met in that coworking space? He flew across the country in late 2024 (six years after we first met) to custom-make my wedding tux.

That’s the kind of relationships this industry builds.

That experience (mixed with some good advice) made me realize that this happenstance chance to work with a coworking client was a sign that I needed to go all-in on this industry.

What I love about the coworking world

The coworking industry is full of people who are driven, determined, generous, and passionate.

We work in a relatively young space. It's ever-evolving and changing by the day. To an extent, we're all figuring things out on the fly.

And we’re all pushing it forward together—whether you run a single location, a multi-location business, a franchise company, a global brand, or a service-based business.

I like to believe I'm included in that statement, to some small extent.

What ties us together (in my humble opinion and based on my own personal observations) is a shared love for the hustle and an entrepreneurial spirit.

A willingness to innovate.

A desire to learn from each other, support one another, and connect professionals with spaces where they can grow in their careers or build their businesses and find their own version of success.

In a weird way, I feel like by supporting coworking spaces, I get the chance, by extension, to support both:

A. Those other hustlers who inspired me early on

B. The operators who provide the type of work environment that was so pivotal to my life and career

I get the sense that I'm supporting like-minded people who share my values—both my clients in our industry and the people who work in their coworking spaces.

And that means something to me.

A moment of gratitude for coworking

This industry has given me a lot. It’s given me a business I’m proud of. The chance to go see the world, make my own decisions, achieve success I didn't think was possible, and carve out a life on my own terms.

It's also given me the opportunity to meet some incredible people, make some real friends, and learn a whole lot along the way.

Like yours, my job isn't always easy—there are challenges, hard days, and moments of doubt.

But every time I think about what I get to do, who I get to do it for, and the impact we’re all making together, it fires me up to keep going.

It's a privilege to support clients in achieving success—while they're busy helping others do the same.

The work my clients do makes the work I do on their behalf feel meaningful.

A few thank-yous

So here it is: a simple thank you.

Thank you to everyone in this industry—to all the people who have supported me, guided me, and made me feel at home here.

Thank you to all the incredible people I've met along the way.

Thanks to my clients—past and present—for the chance to do this work—for trusting me with your stories, your businesses, and your goals.

Thank you for inspiring me with your grit, your creativity, and your drive.

I'm proud to be part of this world.

Thank you for letting me in.
