Does your website make people work too hard?

I recently did a website audit for a client, and I thought that one of our key findings was worth sharing for your consideration as well:

In looking at the images and copy on the website, we realized that visitors were having to work too hard to find the information they were looking for.

All the information was there. There was great stuff in abundance. It was just buried--both in terms of its location on the page as well as in how much writing they had to digest to find the details.

This serves as a great reminder that your website should:

  • Focus first on telling readers what you offer and who it’s for (and, in explaining that, who it’s not for) so they can make a decision about whether they want to keep exploring
  • Explain how the reader will benefit from your space at a high level and what challenges you’ll help them solve before talking about the granular details of what you offer
  • Make sure your website copy is concise and impactful
  • Structure your website in a way that answers the questions they’ll want to be answered in the order they’ll want them to be answered in

Remember: you don’t want to make your visitors scroll too far or think too hard to figure out exactly why your coworking space is the right choice for them.
